Frankfurt is the biggest OVH POP in term of traffic exchanged and this year was particularly intense for our 4 old friends fra-1/5-n7/a9.
Indeed, with the new datacenters of Limburg and Ozarow, the traffic flowing through Frankfurt doubled in only 1 year !
In order to continue our expansion in Germany and in East Europe, we decided to replace the current architecture by a new design more scalable and more distributed.
This new infrastructure will be able to route 28,8Tb/s per POP and will allow us to be present on more peering POP.
Also the plan is to open a new POP in Frankfurt to connect our critical peers and carriers in both location.
This new architecture is segmented in order to address 2 level of capacity planning (DC <> DC & DC <> PEERS). Indeed, we see more and more traffic between our datacenters and we need to handle this in a scalable way.
In order to migrate to this new design several steps are needed to move every part with a rollback procedure and a backup solution in case of outage.
The first step is to add in parallel the new architecture and move every long haul links to it. The peering will remain on the current devices and will be migrated later.
We have decided to split this intervention in 3 maintenances :
- NETCHANGE-116 : 18/06/2019 10:00PM (UTC)-> 19/06/2019 3:00AM (UTC)
- NETCHANGE-117 : 19/06/2019 10:00PM (UTC)-> 20/06/2019 3:00AM (UTC)
- NETCHANGE-118 : 25/06/2019 10:00PM (UTC)-> 26/06/2019 3:00AM (UTC)
During these maintenances, the latency of the traffic flowing in this POP will variate during few minutes for each direction we will move.
